Introduction
Seoul Art High School
Seoul Art High School is the only 'visual arts' specialized high school in Korea designated by the Korean Ministry of Education. Since 1967, Seoul Art High School has produced influential artists and leaders in Korean and beyond, who have changed and shaped history of art and art industries in Korea. Seoul Art High School continues to educate its students with innovative, creative, and global educational perspectives to become highly intelligent, boldly artistic, passionately responsible to make a positive impact in the world as 'daring artists.'
Seoul Art High School Global Education Center
Global Education Center is a newly founded program at Seoul Art High School, which assists and guide its students to effectively prepare their study at colleges and universities abroad. GEC, initiated by Mr. Jangbok Lee, who was a principal with a global vision in 2019, has actively engaged with outstanding art colleges and universities on behalf of students' academic success in global environment and provided necessary programs that help students become competitive students.
A Brief History of Seoul Art High School
1967
Seoul Art High School began as a tent school in 1967. Thereafter, the school was accredited as the nation's unique art high school by the board of education of Seoul Metropolitan City and it has since developed as an excellent future-seeking, autonomous art school. SAHS, its teachers and students make unceasing efforts together to cultivate world-renowned artists.
1971
SAHS was officially accredited as Hanhung Industrial Arts Technological School.
1972
Newly named 'Hanhung Industrial Arts Technological School' was opened on May 25 with the teacher Kim Jeong-soo, installed as the school's first principal.
1974
The school's name was changed into 'Hanhung Art School.'
1991
Completion of Building A, B, C, D that includes academic classrooms, art studios, library, and sport computer labs, which was the main architectural structure for current educational buildings and facilities.
1994
The school was re-organized as 'Seoul Art High School' approved by the Korean Ministry of Education.
2006
The Korean Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development designated SAHS as 'a model school for promotion of school's educational capabilities and effectiveness on the youth.'
2009
Seoul Art High School finally added and completed the construction of modern multi-purpose utility and cooking facilities.
2013
The entire educational curriculum re-organized in the 2014 school year. (15 classes in all were organized, with 200 students in 5 fine art classes)
2015
Seoul Art High School had held the 12th National Middle School Art Contest & the 42nd Yaelim Art Exhibition.
2018
Seoul Art High School cerebrated the 50th founding anniversary.
Seoul Art High School Academic Majors
Korean Painting
The curriculum course of the Korean painting is composed largely on understanding the moulding principle of the pictures based on the traditional theory, on expressing the feeling about the pertinent objects in qualitative and sensical ways, and on effectively learning the rudimentary expressing methods of paintings in Indian ink.
Western Painting
In the course of the western painting, Seoul Art High School places particular emphasis, among other things, on obtaining the basic principle of modern pictures by the way of real and proficiently practices and training. Especially, SAHS has carried out the freedom-oriented art program called 'Thinking art,' from 2005. Up to the present (2018), first and second graders have attended the course.
Sculpture : Carving and Moulding
SAHS puts a heavy emphasis on nurturing the sense of general moulding with regards to 'three dimension and space' and the capabilities of getting sense of beauty. Hard training on increasing abilities of expression in the course of carving and moulding is presented.
Design
In the design course, the top priority is placed, among others, in fully understanding both moulding concept and the principles of design, and on conducting he practice and training designed to take abilities of expressing in creative ways by making the most of various forms and techniques.
Global Education
As a recently developed program, global education specializes to educate, assist, and guides students who desire to study abroad after Seoul Art High School. Acknowledging that there should be necessary and required preparations such as language tests, portfolio, essays, special activities, Global Education equips students with skills and knowledge for successful college life at higher educational institutions abroad. Global Education Curriculum includes the study of various artistic genres and perspectives of the world, English prep classes and global citizenship experiences, which prepares with 'global competitiveness.'

Since its humble beginning as 'a tent school' in 1967 to educate the young in the impoverished area of Seoul, Seoul Art High School has offered an excellent quality art education and grown into one of the nation's best and exemplary high schools for more than 50 years. Seoul Art High School continues to educate creative and bold young artists with talents and characters, who would be ready to create 'true beauty' among the hearts of all people in Korea and beyond.
Now envisioning Seoul Art High School's great history of 100 years, Seoul Art High School focuses on building the school's global presence and on nurturing students' ability to realize their true potentials as 'daring artists' and 'engaging global citizens,' especially through recently started 'Global Education Center in 2019.' Seoul Art High School continues to cultivate in its students the love of learning and the passionate pursuit of lifelong personal success and service as 'artists.'
